She is now thriving in Acellus Academy and loves the online format where she is in control of her pace.
“My daughter has high functioning autism and was able to do most of her grades in elementary in the mainstream classroom. I want to state that we had a wonderful experience there.
The middle school she went to was a completely opposite story. I saw her go from loving learning to being a complete anxious and fairly depressed person. She had difficulty keeping up with the pace and we spent 3 to 4 hours a night doing homework, then catching up class work and projects, and then doing any studying for tests. Both of us got very little sleep and I was not getting any time with the rest of the family. By the middle of eighth grade, I knew neither of us could sustain that through high school and we needed to change something.
I evaluated everything from specialized private school to K-12 online to homeschooling curriculum (using books). As we could not afford the private school, I focused on online and other homeschooling options. The K-12 was based on state mandated curriculum and even though it said ‘self-paced’, it really wasn’t. You still had to be done within certain dates.
I honestly don’t recall how we found Acellus. At one point, I was googling homeschooling every day and Acellus homeschool popped up. I decided to use it as a supplement to her eighth grade math that I wasn’t able to help with. Within a few videos, she understood the material. She wanted to keep going. She wanted to know if there were other classes. She wanted to quit 8th grade in public school and switch right then. About the same time, the homeschool became Power Homeschool and we decided on the Acellus Academy option, using the Mentor Program to help with the tuition.

Courses Designed for Special Education Students
新万博入口阿科勒斯学院offers academic courses specifically designed for students with disabilities, and incorporate the tools needed to assess, adapt, and individualize course material for students.
These courses have been developed to be achievable by students with special needs, while still incorporating the rigor of standards-based courses. Content is taught at a deeper level, allowing students to spend more time on each concept, and increasing the students’ depth of knowledge on each topic.

Year-round Enrollment
Students may enroll in Acellus Academy at any time during the year. After completing placement assessments, students will start at the beginning of each course and quickly move through the material they understand.

The program includes a scholarship as well as mentoring guidance from Dr. Billings himself. The scholarship gives financial assistance to kindergarten through high school students who are enrolled in Acellus Academy. To qualify for the scholarship program, students must agree to participate in weekly lectures, which are broadcast via the Internet, while they are taking online classes through Acellus Academy.
